Default Gear whine after install

I got richmond 3:73's with all new everything except wheel bearings, and i have an annoying gear whine upon acceleration. It doesn't whine when your coasting but when you give it gas they start to whine. They also whine is certain mph spots. If i drive for a 100 miles and change the rear end fluid, think it would go away?

I would assume some wear in noise is possible, but shouldn't last for significant amount of time...

Was the lash set correctly when the rear was set up? Just curious...

M6 or A4? Somestimes using too steep of gears for a carrier will cause a whine. My Richmond 4.10's whined like a little biatch. Richmonds are alot like Ford owners, they whine.

It is an A4 and i didn't install the gears i had someone else do it because i am only a 17 and don't know much about the rears in these cars. I got a serries 2 carrier. Its just annoying but i can deal with it if it gets me into the 12s

Probably won't go away. You can live with it or have the installer try to set the gears again. Sometimes it take a couple of tries to get it right.

I had Richmond 3.73's in my 3rd gen, whined on either accel or decel, can't remember. From what I've been told Richmond Gears are just noisy. I eventually went to a set of factory 3.42's from a 4th gen and I didn't change a single bearing when I swapped those in only the crush collar and the nut and the noise was gone.

Get used to it! I have had that same gear, Richmond 3:73, for 4 years and I have changed the gear oil a few times, that noise is there to stay. The straighter the teeth on your ring and pinion the loader the noise. Just put some long tubes w/ no cats and a 3" custom "y" into some Magnaflows you won't hear that little whine anymore.
