Default Swapping in a 9"

Ok, well I have a couple questions:
1) What are the advantages/disadvantages of a detroit locker over a posi?
2) Will my panhard bar/control arms/other suspension stuff work if I go with a moser 9"?
3) You have to either get a new driveshaft or shorten the stock one, right?

Hey Jim....Darren P (on carolinarides) just had his 9 inch put in, he could tell you more about it. I am 99% sure that he has the detroit locker, he hates it. It makes a lot of noise engaging/disengaging and he says he wishes he would have gone with something else. You oughta PM him about it I'm sure he could fill you in.

Sweet. Thanks, Kelly

P.S. You're going with a 12 bolt, right? I might end up doing that...

1) Advantages: Great traction and mine launched straight.
Disadvantages: Noisy as hell and jerky in parking lots.

Consider the third option, a TruTrac. Smooth as a posi but no clutches to
worry about.
2) Yes although you'll need to modify the way your rear sway bar attaches.
3) I'm running stock length drive shaft in mine as are many others.

Other issues to consider.. If you are lowered, your rear will contact the floorboard. Not to worry, it will make room for itself where needed. Just expect some extra banging when going over bumps for a while.

Thanks, I'm not lowered and don't plan on lowering.
I meant TruTrac not regular Posi.

One other question: looking at 9" Moser rears, none are asking if I want the stuff to keep ABS and traction control. Does this mean that it will automatically have it or automatically not have it?

With the Moser 9 inch, ABS/TCS is a $100.00 option. I can get you a Moser 9 inch with the Truetrak option, your choice of gear ratio, ABS/TCS for $2,400.00 shipped. Bob

We haven't found the limit ourselves. I'd also be curious to see if anyone has. Bob

All your factory stuff should bolt up. Mine did.
If anything you will have to get a slightly longer D/S. Not shorter.
My stock one works fine. For now

i got a 9" locker and from my own experience i would say if you enjoy making tight turns at slow speeds keet the posi!!! locker isnt bad on highway but backing out of a parking spot is annoying...or even pulling in one slowly...i think ill keep my locker for a while and see if it gets better over time

1. Noisy when turning and not as strong as a spool is the only disadvantage I can think of
2. All your suspension stuff will work, but some might need modified. Like rear swaybar mounts will not holes elongated to fit a 3inch muffler clamp. And your torque arm might hit the floor depending on which one you have.
3. stock one will work fine.
