Default 9" w/ Locker is in :)

Well, just got back from putting the first 100miles on the 9". Install went smooth until it came time to rotate the housing against the springs, but once we got the right combo of screw jack vs. front tire planting it finished up smooth. Chris (00BLKSS) showed up just in time to get into the pressure zone. Larry (Lrry93) had his hands full almost the entire day, that was good to see. Andrew (BlueSS aka StangKilla aka Drew778) ran the Moroso Billet U Joint Girdle up to the shop, only to find out an hour or so later they dont fit the damn 1350 Yoke side! So, I used the stock straps and bolts, in a pinch at least I know they work, wont race on them, but they work.
And to think I already have the center section sold!

How is it? Well, you can hear the engagement and disengagement of the locker when going around curves or turning. Two distinct sounds, one is a higher pitch tick or clicking and then add to that a louder deeper clunking on tighter turns. Annoying? Not to bad at all, used to after the 100 mile ride already. I need to get another 200+ miles on it before I race it, but if weather holds out friday and saturday, then it will be.

Issues on install, I need to either get a new DS or I have access to a steel DS if Driveline on island can lengthen it, about 1.5". It would be ok for a stock trans, but with the TH350 already needing a lil longer DS the 9" just takes a lil more away. Get a set of U Joint Strap or a Girdle Kit that fits the 1350 Yoke. When installing I recommend putting the TA on the housing as it goes up into the car, this would cut the time another 45min or so.

I do not recommend the stock driveshafts, I have seen too many of them break. I sell the PST 3.5" aluminum driveshafts that come with the 1350 yoke and both U Joints. This driveshaft is rated at 1200 hp and sells for $399.00, no matter what length you need. Bob

I didnt measure persae, but the longer one is on the passenger side. I assembled both ways and thats the only way it fit. Assembly was easier taking the parking brake shoe off, then you can easily get to the 4 Tee bolts for the backing plate, since they are kind of short I used red locktite. I also used a C-Clamp to press in the center section studs, using a socket over the threaded shaft, made it quick.

Not sure how it is on an auto but in my m6 the locker was very noisy even in a straigt line when acceling and decelling. I ended up getting rid of it after 50 miles for a spool. How is yours? is it a detroit locker or a trutrac?

Detroit I do beleive. I can hear it clunking, as if the u joints were bad, if I accel decel accel, or when cam surging to an idle in 3rd gear (sometimes I forget to downshift). Around corners its kind of a scrap-ticking as if something were stuck in a drum brake, but nothing I grown accustom too. I still have 250miles for break-in...oh how miles creep when you need to put them on.

The 500miles have been exceeded And it is still fricken raining like mad, all over the island. I ended up using a Steel DS from an LT1, had the steel body replaced with one that was 1.25" longer and then new joints and balanced. So, today, I swapped in the Steel Shaft, drained the gear lube, replaced with M1, and reset the pinion angle -2*. Also changed the oil and filter since the new engine now has 3,000miles on it.

I now need to cut the old relo brackets off the 10bolt and get them welded on the 9" housing. On the way home from the shop, I decided to get on it from a light real quick, to check for noises and such since it was raining. Well, the damn thing planted the street radials hard enough I got some serious wheel hop. Damn it.

We've been able to cut the relocation brackets off of old rears and reuse them for customers. As long as you don't mutilate them, you'll be okay. Bob
