I'm only asking becuase I'm about to buy one from some guy and I'd hate to buy it and it doesnt work on my car?

Thanks

If you have Traction Control you have 4-channel, just ABS is 3-channel.

With a 12-bolt you can get 3 or 4 channel setups. The 9" only accomodates 4-channel; if you have 3-channel you'd lose ABS with a 9".

Anybody know if the 4-channel equipped cars still have the reluctor ring on the gear carrier in the axle? I have a chance to buy a low-mile 4-channel axle with 3.42 gears, I want to swap the parts into a 2.73 equipped 3-channel car.
Thanks

But my question now is.....Will the ABS from a 3-channel rear end work in a car that originally came with a 4-channel rear end? Thanks

I hope someone who really knows can chime in here. The 4-channel setup has speed sensors at each wheel where a wiring harness hooks up. The 3-channel, ABS only, hooks up to the pumpkin. Maybe GM makes the rears interchangeable, but I'm not sure.

I Should of asked the same question. I just purchased 4 channel axles, thinking they will fit my 3 channel 10 bolt. ****.

On v8 cars if you have TCS you have 4channel ABS. This means that there is no sensor on top of the pumpkin, there are two seperate brake lines running to each caliper, there are ABS sensors on the backing plates.

If you do not have TCS on a v8 car you have 3channel. This means that there is one ABS sensor on top of the pumpkin and only one brake line running to the back of the car which hits a T-joint and splits to go to the calipers.

If you have a v6 car like me, TCS or no TCS you have 3channel.

It is pretty obvious. The sensor is a little black box/whatever type thing. Kind of hard to miss.

And yes, before you say anything, I fucked up my rear end install and no longer have ABS. 3channel to 4channel doesn't work unless you want to drill into the pumpkin and install the sensor and reluctor ring.

So since i dont really care for my TCS, then if I buy a 3-channel rear, I can still make it work with my car, and at least i will have ABS right?

A TCS equipped car is not configured to hook up to the pumpkin. It has a speed sensor in each backing plate, and the harness goes to each wheel.

Why don't you just get and a 4-channel rearend and eliminate the headaches?

I dont know, is it worth the headache even if I can buy a 10 bolt with 4.10's for $300?

Obviously you'd be better off with 12-bolt or 9", but $300. is a pretty good price for a 10-bolt with 4.10s. I'd say it's worth it. You can't even buy a 4.10 gear set for that.
