Default 9" center section "HELP"

I have a friend that selling me a 9" center section with aluminum pinion support and 3.70 gears with spool.Everything is assembled for $400 I ve done some research and found the case to be with 1 single web from top to bottom and drain hole, which seems to be the most common one.He told me it has the large bearings on it.My ?s are will the yoke it has,can I still use my stock driveshaft?I would assume I just buy a moser housing with axles and Im done, but Ill probably ditch the spool and get a posi. What do u think, any suggestions and tips are welcome

You might not like a spool for a daily driver--although some do it. A TruTrac seems to be the way to go (what I'm running in mine). No clutches to worry about, works like a posi and can take the abuse. The case you are referring to should be good until you get up around the 400 rwhp range before you have the potential for troubles. You can still use stock shaft--just need to go to NAPA and get a cross-over U-joint to mate them together.

Second thumbs up for the TrueTrac posi unit. I love mine. From what I understand NASCAR runs TrueTracs on road courses so you know they can take a beating.

CW00BlackTA is right, you'll have to get a conversion U-joint. I believe it's a 1330 series joint.

Its a stock case, might not be a good choice if you are to be running a good amount of power.

But how many times will it do that???

Look for a twin-rib WAR case, or one with a big ol' "N" cast into it... the beefy nodular case, if you're going with used parts. Helps to learn as much about what you're looking for as possible, that way you just might snag one off somebody who has no clue what he's selling for $5.

I've read nothing but crap about WAR and WAB cases. Heard the only decent one ford made was the N.

The top 3 series are all required to run a 31 spline locker at all events the only exception was open diffs at speedways but those rules have been changed...Some late model sportsman cars run a Gleason or gold track diff which are torque bias basacially a traction control device

X2, the war cases are absolute junk, worse than the regualr ones. And even the factory N cases dont compare with an aftermarket case, although they are strong.

a Strange 9" "S" case can be purchased new for about 200. why would you even risk the chance? the factory nodulars aren't even that good after a certain amount of power. the most attention needs to be directed to the pinion support. if the pinion deflects in the case it doesn't matter what you have.

The Strange Pro cases have the S in them, which is for Strange, and they are some of the strongest ones out there. Moser cases are marked with a N, and are the same as the Strange Pro pretty much. Strange does make what they call the S series case also, which is a less expensive case and not quite as strong. They both have the S in them, the Pro case has the checker pattern ribs and the S series case has the radial ribs.
I am only pointing this out so that people with strange rears do go out and see the "S" on their 3rd members and think they got ripped off.

I know this is an old thread but Id rather ask in here than start a new thread:

What about a factory case with an aluminum pinion support, spool and gears installed? Will this make it stronger or will the power rating still be about the same? (Ive heard of that setup being good to the 10's/9's range but I dont put much coin behind those statements unless I see it myself) Im just curious as Ive been sitting on a cast center for a while and havent decided on what to do with it yet.
