Default drain plug question

somehow the threads on my drain/fill plug got chewed up on my new moser 9". it threaded in halfway by hand and then got tight so i put the wrench on it and i chewed up a thread or two.

anyone have an idea on what tap and die size i would need i know that it is 14 threads per inch, but i am unsure about the size.

any other ideas?

thanks.

May be that you'd get lucky, and find one of those self-
tapping oil pan plugs at the AutoZone fits the thread and
will clean it "well enough" to avoid re-tapping larger (esp.
if you get a nice bungy O-ring to seal with).

If it's 14 tpi it's most likely 7/16 NC. I have a huge tap and die set, and the only 14 tpi tap is a 7/16 NC (course).

Take the plug down to the auto part store and match it to the tap you need and then see if it will clean up the threads for you.

thanks for the input guys. I ended up going to J&L Industrial supply and picked up a tap and die(1/2 14TPI)

i smoothed out some of the rough threads and the drain plug went in like a charm
