Default Post up if you are still running the 10 bolt with an auto trans!!

I'm sick of hearing people at the track cry about how they are afraid of breaking weak 10 bolt with their auto transmission car. YES, I know M6 guys can break them easily but I'd like to hear opinions of the 10 bolt behind an auto trans car. Lets hear how you've abused yours! Post up what you do, spray out of the hole, boost, etc!

Personally, I'm not worried about mine at all. 371 RWHP with a PT4000 and 3.42 gears and it doesn't make a hint of noise. I'm looking for a set of REAL slicks so I can get my 60' under 1.75 but i'm still not worried about it breaking.

I ran a stock 10 bolt with 3.42 (OEM) gears on my 383 IROC (430 RWHP) with 255/50-ZR16 GSC-S (Soft compound/shaved) tires.

Ran great until they stole me car

I know a guy running a lilttle over 400 in his D.D. and hes runnign 10.5-10.7's consistently.(with radials) Ran low 10's with slicks launching at 4000. And he has 3.42's and has never heard a whine.

Broke two teeth off the spider gears on a 1.60 launch with my SS4000. Car lifted the front tires then the left tire got into some water or oil then hooked hard again. That's when it broke. This was on M/T DR's. Found an Auburn Pro Posi for sale here and put that in. Still worried about breaking it though. Once you start getting dead hook traction, the threat of breaking the 10 bolt with a high stall A4 is very real.

I have a friend that was spraying off the line w/ slicks, stall, and a cam, running 10.6 lowest but many many high 10 passes on it, never had an issue with the rear end. He has since totalled the car but he abused the hell out of that thing at the track and it took it.

Did you have a girdle on yours?

I know it CAN be done but it usually stems from wheelhop or shocking the drivetrain from spinning then hooking over just raw power.

I'm just curious as to what it takes to break one with an auto trans. I've seen plenty of them live into the 10's on auto cars, i'm just wondering how far into the 10's (or lower) that they'll go.

I didn't have a girdle on it when it broke but I do now.

I think your right about raw power not breaking it but you never know when a situation like what happened to me will happen. Cars spill **** on the starting line all the time and you don't always see it.

Yeah, I am planning on getting a set here VERY soon. I'm just curious if there is anyone out there that broke it on raw power whether it was sprat, boost or whatever.

Mods

Lid
Filter
Cutout
16' Dr's
Subframe Connectors
Lakewood shocks
150hp wet
Race trans cooler
Race trans pan
3.23 gears

Out of the hole 150 shot netted me 1.8 60fts, after about the 5th pass, started to whine. Never any real problems, just swapped in a new 3.42 rear end.

10 bolt 3.42 gear with a 4k stall th350, hasn't broke yet. I haven't done any big launches at the track with sticky tires yet, since no tracks are prepped around here yet, but no problems on the street so far

i have many sub 1.70 60' launches, and even more abuse on the street...no problems. i have the stock rear (factory 273 car) with strange 373 gears and a girdle. i'm more worried about my tranny now than i am my rearend.
