Ford 9" setup?
I have the option of getting a Ford 9" for very cheap from a friend.
It was in a 95 Trans Am, but has a Spool and 3.70 gears.
I want 4.10 gears and a POSI for my daily driver if I do it.
How much is this going to cost me for everything, and what setup would YOU do?
Also, I'm going to need a clutch eventually (this one likes to slip on a launch), will the gears be harder or easier on my stock clutch? I'd think easier, since you won't have to slip as much in first gear and all the ratios will be "closer" together now. So, would you jump on the 9" first, or clutch first. For normal driving and even full throttle shifting, the clutch is fine (except in back to back WOT runs, it gets mushy, or can stick to the floor if I do a long burnout.

My first thoughts....
Truetrac- $400
Motive 4.11 gear- $150
Gear install kit- $120
Is that all I'll need?
I want a quiet setup that's strong enough to never worry about doing it again, and VERY streetable.

I found out some more details on the 9".
It's a Moser 9" with Strange 35 spline axles (he thinks it's 35 spline, could be 31). Locker and 3.70 gears.
Selling it to me for $200.
Should I change it to a 31 or 28 spline setup for a daily driver? What downsides could 35 spline have? Does Truetrac have a 35 spline setup?

$200!!!??? What's wrong with it? True trac won't fit 35spline axles ina 9". 35 spline takes more power to turn=more power loss. If i were you I'd just drive the setup for awhile, it might grow on you and you could save some $. JMO

I drove his 95 T/A with the locker.
I DEFINITELY didn't like it. Chirp chirp chirp around corner, NO driving in the rain. No thanks, I do advertising sales and drive around all day in this car.
The whole point of doing this for me is to get the 4.10 gears. The only reason I'm gonna do it with the 9" is the cheap cheap price I can get on this one.
Are there any good, streetable posi units out there for 35 spline axles? Or, what would a set of 31 spline set me back? (and what brand would you buy?) I know Moser will make them for $310 for the pair.
Anyone want to trade a locker and 35 spline for limited slip 31???

You're gettin this thing for less than a used 10bolt. Go ahead and do new axles 31sp if you want the true trac. You don't need 35sp. I'm putting a true trac/31sp behind my 725rwhp car. I'm not too worried about it holding up.

If it turns out to be the full race 35 spline setup.....
(which I think it may be, since it was originally going to go in a 3rd gen 454 built car with a 400 shot of nitrous, until he blew up the motor on 400hp of nitrous)
I may try to find someone with a 12 bolt 4.10 posi setup to trade or something. Hopefully someone with a streetable setup might be looking to upgrade.

More info I got. It's not a locker, it has a SPOOL in it. So that's definitely going to have to go.
But, it may have 31 spline axles.
Other than buying a POSI, will I have to buy anything else to go from a spool setup to a posi one?
