Will my stock DS survive the track this friday night?
mods in sig. im curious here- do u think its safe for me to run at the track as long as i dont dump the clutch at 5k rpm? The DS held up the last time i went to the track, because i wound up breaking my 10 bolt (on street tires)
i slipped the clutch quickly around 4000 RPM, it got me off the line quick on my street tires and stock gears.
This time i will have a 9inch, 4.11s and MT DRs.

I have a stock steel one out of my LT1 it just needs a front yoke installed on it. I took my LT1 Yoke off it and installed it on my LS1 shaft, i still have the LS1 yoke too. It would be a lot cheaper than breaking your nice Aluminum one and replacing it. If you're interested just let me know.

I say it has no chance.(see pic in sig) Mine went out at a gentle 3000 rpm launch first time out with drag radials on stock rear, on a supposed terribly prepped track..
Expensive tow bill that night.

Lots of bucks spent on a 9", yadda, yadda, and then, take a chance on finding the DS sticking up your ***, and the car in the wall????
Got a d/s loop? You just may find out if it works....
GOOD LUCK..

I'm very thankful I went ahead and put on a DS loop the day before I went racing. My shaft broke instantly, the car maybe made it an inch down the track which was lucky, and saved me a pair of underwear.
On a side note, I have noticed some small puddles of tranny fluid lately.Haven't jacked it up to check it out yet,but would assume that I damaged the seal when it broke.

It's your car do what you want, but if the car hooks and you have a good clutch it shouldn't last more than 6 passes at a 5k dump. I went to the track several times on my stocker, and ran the times in sig, but I never dumped it. I don't care about breaking my DS, but I don't want to run the risk of output shaft damage, which is pretty common when the DS goes.

I broke a Lingenfelter 3.5" aluminum driveshaft on the starting line on a lousy hooking track. The car did not even trip the staging lights... The driveshaft broke at the 1330 yoke end. I was only making 540 rwhp with ET streets.
I have since upgraded to a PST 3.5" aluminum driveshaft, which is much stronger and uses a 1350 yoke, which also means no hybrid U Joint has to be used. The PST shaft is rated at 1200 hp, and comes with both U Joints for $399.99. I highly recommend it. Bob
