Default How do I tell when it's time to change U-joints?

Hey all,
In the middle of a tranny overhaul, and while its out getting repaired, I wanted to do a bunch of maintenance.

I have the stock aluminum driveshaft. I checked the U-joints for any play, and they actually seemed a little stiff to me. Basically, I wanted to know what to look for if I need to change them. It is a PITA with the molded nylon seals so I don't wanna do it if I don't have to. Car has 70k.

And if I do need to change them, will replacements with standard C-clips work?

Thanks in advance.

They should move easily back and forth in a smooth motion, if it feels really stiff or sticky it time to replace. The replacement ones will come with c clips to hold it in insteal of the factory nylon crap.

Ok, then I guess it's time to replace them. Thanks a lot.
