Default loud bang (clunk)

Just on my way back from getting my dinner (pizza), and I was behind 3 cars on a one lane road. They were going to slow for my liking so I put it into 3rd and hammered it. When I got up to the 3rd car I shifted into 4th, not slamming it into gear. In doing so I heard a loud bang, so I imediately put it into 5th and limped home not really knowing were the noise came from b/c the exhaust was so loud. A little insight on my car, I have a brand new Moser 12bolt w/ 4.10s, TSP 233/239, and a Spec 3 clutch. As far as breakin on the rearend, I started it up on jacks and let it run for 5 mins in forward than reverse, after that I drove it 10 miles to my house where it sat over night. The next evening I finally got on it and put some power to it, was that to soon? Moser's breakin directions say if you're gonna drag, than breakin forward and reverse while on jacks, than pull to the line! So what do you all think? I'm not going to be able to look at it until tomorrow, just wanting some opinons!

ive got 500 miles on my new moser 12 bolt, i never had a clunk like you say but ive got a speed sensitive clunk/loud tick from the rear end when i brake or coast from 40ish to a stop. i broke mine in on the jack stands (forward and reverse) for 3-4 minutes then i drove 10 normal drivin miles for 1 heat cycle, then i did 4 more 10 mile heat cycles. from what ive heard the cycles are only to keep your gears quieter.

Whatever it was I wasn't happy to hear that noise. I'll just have to investigate myself. I don't think it was the clutch b/c I was still able to shift fine, and the rear didn't make anymore noise than it already does! Go fig...

Nope, just went and looked no broken torque arm, panhard bar, or LCA! I guess I'm gonna start it up and drive down the road now that it's daytime and see if I can hear anything. Maybe I'll try to see if I can reenact what happened.

Yep, broke the torque arm right on top of the rearend. Broke the head off the top first bolt and ripped out of the back top bolt!
Great any suggestions for a one time replacement?

It wasn't the torque arm's fault that it broke. What happened is the bolts that attach it to the rear end backed out leaving play there. VERY common problem with moser 12-bolts.

Various "solutions" to attempt to keep it from happening, a TON of red loctite is one, tack welding the bolt to the torque arm mounting plate is another.

Yeah I just got a good look at it w/ a mirror, the top front bolt is completely gone, so it backed out and fell out and just left one to do the work on top. I should've known to put red lock tight on those. Anyone know what grade bolt I should put back in? Grade 8?

This Sucks!
