My buddy and I have decided to build a ford 9" rear and try it out in my car...I have some questions though...Is there a certain year 9 inch i should be looking for? length? besides brake swap what else is needed to be changed...I plan on building a 31/33 spline 410 rear with posi...I can get 9" rear for good prices in my area...Thanks

You should consider buying one from a sponsor that is ready to go. All the fabrication you would have to do otherwise is not going to save time or money.

Or, you could just buy a used one that's already setup for around $1500.

Say you buy a "junkyard 9"." Then do ALL the fabrication needed.... You'll need.

Junkyard 9"- a few hundred $$.
Gears: $200
Bearings, etc. $100

Over $1000 in stuff, and you'll still be stuck with a standard case and yoke (not as strong).

Or, you could get lucky like me and find a friend with a Moser 9", 31 spline Moser axles, 3.70 gears and a strange spool that he'll sell to you for $200.

Then I traded the spool for a posi, bought new gears and bearings. All in all, I'll have my 9" with 4.11 gears and a posi for under $500.

I agree. Knew a guy back in CO that did everything him self. In the end he got it to work but it took him alot of work and time. IMO much better to buy a complete untit from one of the sponsors. I personaly recomend Billingsley.

The cheapest way to go that I know of would be the buy the Moser 9" housing with the torque arm mount, and then go used for the center section and the axles. Bob
