Default Differential going out?

Its pretty hard sometimes to shift into 1st or 2nd...is this a good sign?

Could a lose driveshaft do anything damage to a tranny? As in the center bearing would hit the body as it would rotate? And it would make a loud sound as if someone was cutting into my car with a saw. But I swapped it out for an alum so maybe the damage has already been done?
