96 firebird formula how do i tell what gear is in it?

Is it a manual? 3.42

Otherwise look at the RPO codes. GU2 = 2.73 and GU5 = 3.23

My brother has the 2.73 in his that was a mistake by gm to put that gear in these cars . Just my .02 Why were at it it was a mistake with the 10bolt period
