you can get hammer puller fron a local parts store OR ( do not laugh ) brake about 12 inchs off the handle of the wife's broom and wittle it down untill it will stick into the center hole of the bearing, pump the hole behind the bearing and the center hole full of grease with a grease gun insert the broom handle into the hole and strike it with a hammer and the grease will force the bearing out ps : do not let the grease spray into your face - the is the poor man's way to remove the bearing

It's also the poor man's way to push the crankshaft gallery oil plug in to the motor. The LS1 crank is hollow. I would not recommend the packing method. Been there, done that, almost pushed the damn plug in to my oil pan. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

You need to go to Auto Zone and rent the slide hammer based pilot bearing puller. Use a hammer and chisel to notch the pilot bearing on either side (so you can slip the jaws of the puller through the bearing), jam that puller in there, and give it a few short sharp pulls. It'll pop right out. Takes like 5 minutes.

Then return the puller to Auto Zone, and you're out $0.

I highly recommend the slide hammer method! Any other way is a PITFA.
