Default AAM 4.10 gears noisy

I just had a set of AAM 4.10 gears installed in my 10 bolt. I have heard that these are the quietest gears out there, however after picking my car up from the shop, I get various levels of whining/howling from the rear at different speeds and loads. Is this common for 4.10s or is there something wrong with the setup?

Thanks,
Chris

Well I use to drive my pops T/A with 4:10's. I never heard anything from the rear even when it had 120k on it and about 70k on the 4:10's. So I would say maybe it wasnt installed correctly. Read some of the stickies they tell you pretty mutch what to expect on a gear change.

I have heard it depends on how well the shop installed them/set them up and the brand.

My grandfather helped a guy a while back build a 300 shot Nova and it has Screamer brand 4.10's in them

Apparently you could hear them over the engine and thats what they were known for, he ditched them pretty good.

I have some GM 4.10s in the mail for me that I got cheap.

What type of oil did you use for break in? Sounds like a set up or break in issue to me.

They put Royal Purple in after i asked for conventional oil. I only have about 5 full heat cycles on them, so I don't believe they are fully broken in. The shop said that they normally get this kind of noise from 4.10s and that they usually set them up tight for strength.
