Default 3:73's what effect will they have on my trap speed, and 1/4

how much of a 1/4 mile effect, and a trap speed effect will 373 gears compared to my 323 have. I just want to see if its worth it. I run 13.8 @98 so i already have a low trap speed, so just wondering.

I know on the new vette the z51 option gives you better gears and i think better tires. Well an issue of road and track i have says

stock C6. 12.8 114
Z51 C6 12.8 112

Dont look like there is much point to spending the money on the z51 option, technically the z51 is slower according to this.

Without going too much into all the finer details; the lower the gear, the better your track performance. 3:73's are a much better gear for performance. A strickly track car would be even lower.

They'll give you 1 or 2 mph and .1 to .2 reduction in the quarter mile.

If you want to be quicker, skip the gears and put a 3000+ stall in the car and you can drop .5 off the quarter.

+1 on the stall instead of gears.

i'd go w/ atleast a 3500 - they're plenty streetable, and when the verter locks up while cruising - you'll still get the same mpg on the highway.

oh - and the Z51 package is not to make the car faster in a straight line. it's a handling/road racing package - suspension upgrade most of all IIRC.

Went from 3.23s to 3.73s and picked up 2 mph and drop .1 in the quarter mile with my 3500 stall.

Ragtop is right get a converter first and drop about half a second first before you get gears.

definitely do a converter first, you should pick up some MPH with that- 3500 ish stall. Then decide if you want 3.73's. Thats what I did and I wanna get 3.73's now for a couple more mph in the quarter. 3.23's are actually a pretty decent gear till you want to squeeze every last bit out.

Oh yeah, but just a 3.23 to 3.73 gear change without a TC could net you in the 2-3 mph range. gears and stall= maybe 4-5 mph. Stall only 2-3 mph but .5+ reduction in ET.
