Default Pics of my new Mikronite Gears

Last year my 12-bolt started to whine after 6 track runs last year, which means it needed to be opened for inspection. After reading about the benefits of the Mikronite process on a thread here, I decided to give Vinci Performance (sponsor here) a call. I called and talked to Roger Vinci who is not only knowledgeable about the process itself, but also about gears and rear ends (no pun intended) in general. So I decided to go forward with the process. First I had to order the gears from Strange-and per Roger's request-ordered the Motive brand gear set. The rep (Tracy) at Strange was helpful and sent the set directly to Vinci. Today, I received them so I took some pics, which don't do them justice. They almost are too nice (almost) to install.

Even though the total cost was not cheap, I feel the combined benefits (reduced operating temps, quieter operation and small hp increase) should outweigh the initial cost. Both Car Craft and MM&F did articles about mikronite gears and did realize some of the mentioned benefits. It seems the process is catching on with racers who need those benefits along with the added surface strength.

BTW - the teeth surface is just as polished as the sides. Also, the small specs you see are just pieces of the styrofoam packaging clinging to the metal surface.

Looks good. Are we talking $200 or $700 extra?

I should have taken pictures of mine before installing them. They shine like mirrors.

Motive used to be able to send them out to Smith and Wesson for a similar finishing process a while back, and they could be ordered by a vendor straight from them like that. I wonder why they stopped. I guess it just wasnt very popular at the time.

Did you set up the gears in your housing before hand to find the ideal contact pattern? I have heard that setting up these gears after the process will effect pattern results.

Wow those look awesome. I would run one of those clear trans dapt covers with those gears since they look so nice.

Correction, it's $250.00 just for the process; not including shipping. I bought the gear set directly from Strange for $165.

No. The gears went directly from Strange to Vinci.

Scott, that's a very interesting point you brought up. They might be whining again soon.
