Default What are the signs ?

What symptoms did you experience or feel before the 10 bolt failed ?
Not racing but just a daily driver !

Mine was a clicking noise from the rear. When i found a few teeth sheared on the ring it was time for the 12 bolt.

Well, I started the car one day and drove to work and noticed a really bad howling noise that I'd never heard in the car before. Got to work, parked it. After work, I backed out of my spot, came to a complete stop (as I always do!), and then put it into drive and immediately there was a loud clunking sound every couple feet. By the time I got the car into the next parking lot and had the tow truck pick my car up, I had snapped 1/3 of the pinion gear off and a couple ring gear teeth.

That was 80k miles on 17 year old gears ('88 TA).

I got a howling in the rear 1500 miles after the TH400 went in. I was like what the hell is that? kept getting a little louder each weekend I took it out till I romped on it a few blocks from the house and nasty grinding noises from the rear. I limped it home and pulled the cover to see a trashed pinion gear. RMVB TH400, Coan 4K stall = death for the 10 bolt.

I hit a speed bump and heard a loud pop ... drove it a little farther and one of the bolt heads had backed out and broken off ... got into the spider gears of the posi and broke some teeth. Guess when they put the new posi in it, they didn't use locktite and the bolts backed out ... finally one backed out enough to catch the rtating parts and broke it off. If you hear any unusual noise at all, immediately park get it to a shop or check it yourself if you don't have the money to put it in the shop.
