rear end howling
installed new gears in january. did everything correctly. broke them in accordingly to factory specs. 4 months later, i began to hear the howl get louder n louder. it did have a small howl, which is normal for new 373's. but it was noticeably loud now. i am going to take the girdle off to inspect. can anyone give me info on why it may do it. by the way i think it still has fluid cuz i did not see any residue around the rear end at all or any fluid on the floor.

your backlash is not deep enough
if your noise continued when you pressed the throttle the gears are in too deep
if your noise goes away when you press the throttle and continues when you let off your gears are not deep enough.

The backlash is measured using a dial indicator. The pattern only indicates the pinion depth. You should get the backlash within spec before finding the right pattern. Once the pattern is acceptable, recheck the backlash again.
