is it commen on a 2000 T/A ws6 6sp to have a rear end whine to it ,if not what could cause it,looking to buy one and owner states its commen on them,

it is common. There are factors which contribute to them whining, lack of lube, pitted carrier or pinion bearings, gear swap, abuse etc.

Any way to fix it other than replacing the rear end? For example, if it's the bearings, can they be replaced?

My WS6 didn't whine until we replaced the pinion bearing (had to re-shim obviously) and the different wear-pattern caused a whine. I am going with 3.73's soon to correct said issue.

My rear end is stock. I did a fluid change around 50k. It was whining almost 2 years before that.

How would I know if it's the gears making the noise or the bearings?

Is it worth it to try and find out? I don't really want to spend 2k on a new upgraded rear end at this point as the car doesn't see the track very often and I'm running street tires.
