Went from 2.73 to 3.42 today!
I swapped in a used 10 bolt from a 6 speed today..and wow..what a difference. I did not think it would be that noticeable since it doesent really seem like a huge jump in ratios..but there's definately a seat of the pants difference..it really woke the car up, it doesent feel so sluggish once it shifts into second gear. One thing tho is i have to get my speedometer calibrated cuz its like 18 or 20 mph off. Also..traction in first gear is more of a problem..well anyways, i just thought i'd let you guys know incase there's anybody out there contemplating making the switch..i would definately recommend it.

18 to 20 mph? Damn... I am switchin from 3.42s to 4.10s in my M6 car, so my friend is contemplating using my old gears in the 2.73 A4 Z28 she just bought last week. She's a crazy driver, maybe she should stick with the 2.73s.

my brother's is exactly the same. except i'm not real sure how far off it is. i know it's about 20 he did the same thing as you. it was a big improvement on his car. felt like a totally different car.

I just went from 3.23 to 3.42, and although some say it isn't worth the effort, a diffrence was felt by me, it pulls harder on the freeway and it's more fun off the line. For 125 bucks if I pick up .1 or .2 in the 1/4 ill be happy.

Oh yeah, the A4's with 2.73's are dogs. The old LT1's with 2.73's could get by okay due to the different power band. These LS1's love gear.
Before I bought my T/A from the BMW dealership I work at (somebody traded it in for a Z4) I was talking the old LS1 T/A up big time. All the salesmen drove it and callled it a turd. I drove it and noticed something wasn't right either. It took me 3 days after I bought it to look at the option codes and that told the story. It was a 2.73 car. Hell, I remember it couldn't even get out of 2nd gear in the 1/4 mile.........powerglide style. It ran a 14.5 at 96 mph
It's got all the bolt ons and some 3.73's in it now.........wow, what a difference.

I'll give you a couple of months then you'll want to go higher gear. glad you like it though. I'm still running with 3.42 m6, H/C swap. when I get back to the states I'll be ordering 9" w/ 4.10's.
