Default Pinion Bearing race.

Ive tried just about everything to install the rear pinion bearing race (the bigger one) with no success. I even went out and bought a bearing race driver set, still cant get the damn thing in . Anyone have any ideas?

Put the race in the freezer over night. Make sure it goes in straight. And yes use a big hammer.

Air hammer. I replaced mine in my Nova and I had the same problem, nothing would work. I pulled out the air chisel and put the hammer attachment on it, it still takes a little while and you have to use something in front of the new race to keep from mauling it up but it will work.

It took me a long time to install it in mine too. The first two attempts it was slightly crooked and wouldn't budge any further, no matter how hard I beat on it. On the 3rd attempt I just tapped it lightly, alternating from side to side, top and bottom. Once it was in a little ways, it was just a matter of beating on it. I used the old race in front of it to not damage the new one. I think it's much easier to get a good swing at it when the car is in the air. Mine was only about a foot off the ground, so it was hard to get good swings at it. I thought the race installer would make it cake.

I put it in the freezer overnight and it went right in.
