If you want to go cheap your going to have to get a rearend from a different caror a used 3 carrier and 3.42.I just switch to 3.73 and I love the acceleration.I went with a new carrier $280 gears $160 instalation kit $60.

I have seen some places have up to a 3.73 gear for my 2 series carrier, would something like that not work instead of putting a different posi unit in?

Everybody that I talked to told me to get a 3 carrier posi instead. You could get a thick gear 3.73 for your car but I hear all sort of stories of really bad gear whine.

If you go with a Strange 3.42 thick gear, and have them properly set up, you will be fine. I have been running this for 6+ years and I think it's great. Going used 3 series is just silly, you now have someone else's problems and wear and tear. JMO.

You can get a good deal from me...:-)

I have a set of used Genuine GM from an SS (3.42) - $50 plus shipping.

I also have a T/A perf girdle WITH the studs kit (all new) -
$125 plus shipping.

I thought about 3.73, but our O/D is not like the manual, so the RPM would be too high for cruising at 65-70mph to my liking.
