Motive 4.10's with master install
I bought a 4.10 ring and pinion from new era performance off of ebay for 159 and 69 for the master install kit, i figured might aswell change the bearings and pinion seal since mine was leaking, i was wondering if this was a good deal 220 roughly for everything, i was also wondering what is the general "break in" period for these gears, and is it a realistic possibility with these gears and th emods in my sig to break into the 12's?, if you could answer my questions it would be greatly appreciated

About 300rpm increase. I just finished installing mine tonight, I got GM gears from new era performance also. $180 for the gears and 40 for the mini install. My car only has 13k on it, so I figured the bearings should be alright. So i Just changed the pinion seal, and swapped the pinion bearing. Used the stock carrier shims and it lined right up. Knock on wood

thanks for your business guys. and rick as far as the install goes you should drive normal on the gears for a while(20+ miles) and let them cool down (3+ hours), then make at least one more trip with a cool down before even thinking about reefing on them.
changing the pinon seal is a good idea as well as the bearings and races, you can use a light and your finger to check the races for scoring or wear marks.
you will need to have your speedometer re-calibrated.
are you an auto or 6 speed? if you have an auto stall it and you should see 12's easy. if your a 6 speed....youll probably need some practice at the track bit 12's should definately be within reach.

you will need a tune in order to re-calibrate your speedo. the car will feel like it has a lot more low end power and your cruising rpms will be a little bit different. the tires will also break loose a LOT easier. so hooking up at the track will be something you should adress next (tires)

I just put 4.10s in my car as well. The speedo is of course off a bit, but all I am remembering is 1800 rpm in 5th is 45 mph...lol. My odometer is off as well, by about 20 to 30 miles per tank. I managed to run a whole tank of gas through my car over the course of the weekend to give the new gears some time to get to know each other. The majority of my driving was city driving, and for the first few trips I gave the car more than 3 hours each to cool down before going at it again. I never reved past 4k rpm (which comes up real fast in first), and never did more than maybe 1/4 throttle, and even with that little gas, the car feels very responsive in every gear. You will start getting to know 5th gear a lot, that's my 45 to 55 mph cruising gear now. 4th gear now feels like 3rd, and taking off from a stop in 2nd gear is no problem. My car is a cammed car, and all that slight bucking/pain in the *** driving when cold is gone now, the 4.10s made the car much easier to drive, it kinda feels like stock again now, with the difference being that it feels like a beast and revs up much faster.

I actually have started one but it is not finished and the bottom of it is disorganized but you can see a fair bit. Rear gear swap.

While you are in there, you might as well swap all the bearings, meaning the wheel bearings and the pinion bearing and put new pinion seal as well as new axle seals in. The axles have to come out for this anyhow, so might as well do some preventative maintenance. You might also want to get a TA performance cover with stud kit, for a little bit of extra strength.
I have a Auburn rear end, and that's pretty much everything that we changed. I didn't have to worry about the paddle situation however.
I haven't recalibrated my speedo yet.
What do you mean by shift points? My car is a manual...so I shift when I want to shift.... My friend, who got my old 3.42s to replace her 2.73s (swapped out her Auburn 2 series for a Torsen 3 series carrier) has an automatic, and without the speedo calibrated, it shifts pretty early if you're easy on the gas, and pretty hard too, but that will change once the computer knows again what's really going on back there.
