Default Moser axles worth it?

Is it worth 240.00 for Moser axles over the stock axles if I have to replace them either way, or am I better off putting that 250 in the bank for other car stuff?

I need to replace the wheel bearings and I have a feeling I will need axles as well, Do I need the c clip eliminators from Moser as well?

I always thought there were alot of other weaker components to the rear end before the axles would fail?

Anyone have any experiences using a saver bearing setup?

Is this for the '67 or the '98 ??

Dude... your in Paramount. Too bad Tom's Differentials moved out of state. He would have been a life saver for you on this.

Plausable answers:
Is it worth it ?? Well, that isnt too bad a price for replacement axles.

Do you need c-clip eliminators ?? No. Id stay away from them all together. (Id rather run a c-clip axle... and save up for whatever replacement differential you have planned for the future... if there is one). C-clip[ eliminators... they all suck. Doesnt matter who makes them... they all leak.

Weakest link ?? Well... that is subjective. The ring and pinion, and the axles are the weakest links to a 7.5/7.6" differential. That is if we are talking about the '98. Next would be the drivers side differential main cap.

Saver bearings ?? Yes they work. Yes they are a bandaid. All you are going to accomplish is a quick fix that will need to be replaced sooner than later. But the saver bearings are alright. They do what they were designed to do. It just not a long term thing, that' all.

I don't think they are the weakest link. I'll sell you my stock axles once I get the abs rings off them. They weren't the first thing to break!

don't put a dime into the 10 bolt. It'll break eventually.

and chicane, I'm running c clip eliminators in my spooled 12 bolt and it doesn't leak a drop.

no thanks on the cookie. making sweeping generalizations like they are facts is the coolest thing to do on the internet.

Ahhh... your the anomaly. Be proud of it.

It's far from being the "sweeping generalization" that you elude to. It is a relative observation with a timeframe of 18+ years. They just havent leaked... yet... and its not a question of "if", it is a question of "when". You on the other hand, have been lucky, thus far. Or should I say your inexperience will tell you no better ??

To give you some supporting evidence, it has to do more with all parts in the system as a whole. When you mix and match components from various sources/manufacturers... the probability and variant of mechanical tolerance goes up. This is also known in the machine world as tolerance 'stacking'. Limiting this is a challenge.

But your a budding, young pup engineer... you already know this. So, when you get to the point of building... say somewhere in the neighborhood of... 8500+ differentials and have had the privlege to have worked with every manufacturer and every part there has been for GM Corp 10 bolt differential (along with many, many others)... Ill take your point as something to note.

Sent you a PM if you want the axles. Someone has prob used them, but diff and ring/pinion are more likely to fail first.

I've got moser axles in my 10 bolt... i believe they would be the last thing to break in it... but its a toss up... if you don't have the cash to slap down on a 9 inch or retrofit an 8.8 or something then you are stuck fixing the 10 bolt, yeah everyone is going to say, "don't throw any money at the stock 10 bolt", well if it's broke and you don't have $2500 for a 9 inch you've got 1 choice left lol. Just my .02.

Were your stock axles damaged? How much and where did you get the moser axles from?

I am running the Moser axles and went with them because superior had a wicked backorder. They deffinately are beefier but I did not buy them to strengthen the rear that was just a bonus. My local gear shop wanted as much for stock axles.

I have Moser axles in my 10 bolt. The pair of them cost less than the dealer wanted for one when I thought I needed a new one. So I bought Moser. Why not upgrade if it's close to or better than the same price. I also did not have $$ money for a 9".

I also have my stock axles (nothing wrong with them, I was told one was bad when it wasn't so I had the new ones in and used when I realized there was nothing wrong with the stockers, so I didn't bother trying to return them). PM if interested.

I also have the Moser Axles. The stock ones were pitted bad so I replaced them. For about the same amount of money or less you can have stronger axles so why not.

Mom and Pop's blew thru town the other day to drop off a truck load of stuff for the baby (whenever she decides its time to come out, due date was the 2nd) and Mom threw down about three dozen chocolate chip's... so I have enough to share.

How far are you from Hutcherson-Pegan over on Statesville ??
