Default A4 with gears shorter than 4.11

I have a 9" currently running 3.89 gears and I'm thinking about swapping them out for some shorter ones. My goal is to mainly get the fast ET possible on a stock motor, and I'll be running 27" slicks. I'm not all that worried about my freeway MPG, but am curious to know how people feel about there cruising RPMs with the shorter gears.

Thanks in advance!

since you said MPG isn't an issue, get the tallest gears you can. . .

1/4 mile... I figured I'd want to use all 4 gears going down the track. I can see how using OD could potentially slow down the time, but does anyone have any actual evidence that it does (i.e. Time slips)?

Thanks again, I've been around drag racing for a while, but just now starting to get into racing myself so I'm definately still learning the ropes!

I don't know what difference it makes, but whatever rear end I've got (stock for the LS1-M6) I'm hitting about 4500 in 4th at the line.

i have a 12 bolt with 4.10's in my A4. I wouldn't go any lower than what you have, it's a waste IMO.

My car shifts 3-4 at 6100rpm at ~110mph for a reference.
I cruise 70mph at 2600 and hate it.

My advice would to be ditch the tci stall for one in the 3500-4000 from yank or vig. That will pick up a bunch more than the gear.

If i had my car to do over i'd have 3.42's and a vig 3200(actually stalls a little higher) or yank st3500 or ss3600.

Hope this helps, you might also look through the fastest stock internal in the drag results section at their combos.

With my current gears I cruise 70 at 2450, from what I can tell 4.56 gears would put me at about 2800, which doesn't seem to bad a trade off for a couple tenths.

As far as getting another stall, totally not an option. I've already done either the tranny or the convertor in this car about 4 times in the past month and half and it's staying in for anything shy of it breaking or a radical cam.

I didn't realize that they actually had a thread about the fastest stock runs, but I'll check that out. thanks!
