Stock 10 bolt-Nitrous a no no?
The answer to this would be an indefinate no from a dig(Ive done some research) but Im wondering if a small dry shot(75) would have any adverse additional wear on the rear end if used during a roll. Being that I have a high mile (115,000) glass rear, Ive made the choice to never launch the car from a dead stop. Are WOT runs from 2nd and 3rd(especially if I were to spray a small shot) still capable of breaking the stock 10 bolt or is it just the 'from a dig's that make them so easy to break? Thanks for any help.

wow, i'm surprised your rear lasted this long. I've heard of horror stories of someone doing 70 and the rear locked up causing him to spin out. Expect the worst to happen, and if you have a 6 speed and gears in the rear, the pin on the grenade has already been pulled.

You can break it with stock power...you can break it with nitrous. You can break it from dig, you can break it from a roll. You can break it on a boat, you can break it on a moat, you can break it near a goat. There are absolutely no guarantees when it comes to the 10 bolt.

I've done a 100hp shot on my A4 and it survived (20+ pulls). From a dig, a few in first gear too. That car had 85K miles on it.
Like the guys said its all depends. I only sprayed the last of 3 rearends. The other two went on STOCK power w/o a rear Cover or gears. The last one had 3.42's and a Gridle cover. And it survived just fine.

I did about 20 pulls NA with a M6 many times dropping from 5K and about 6 pulls with 150 shot of nitrous. The rear end survived...but the carrier bearings were gone for some weird reason. It never actually failed but when the axles would shoot out and in and tag the rear speed sensors I knew it was time to get a 12 bolt. It was horrible.
The rear end had about 50K on it of baby driving. That's sad when all that's wrong with a rear end is the carrier bearings but it is such junk its better to upgrade. hehe

It's luck of the draw. I sprayed a 150 on my old car right off the line and also did a lot of dig races spraying and it lasted.

you can break those things just rolling down the highway...i've said it before and here it goes again: it's just a better idea to get a 12-bolt or a 9" now and never worry about it again then to chance it with the 10-bolt. you could be fine, or you could blow your rear and take even more expensive parts with it...like your ENTIRE CAR if it decides to check out on the interstate. the choice is yours...but the larger investment now just seems to be a much better decision.
