Need some info on 4.10's
I have an 01 camaro with an m6 tranny, which currently has the factory 3.42's. I was wondering if I switched to 4.10's how much difference I would feel in power, and how would it affect the driveability?
Getting taller gears(I believe that's what its considered lol) would just shorten your gears and allow you to stay in your powerband more, or how exactly do they work? How much time in the 1/4 would this shave off on a close to stock m6 ls1?
Gas mileage is not an issue, but what do RPM would it run at about 60mph in 6th?
Lastly, how hard are these to install?

The gears arent real hard to install its just a little technical with knowing specs which shim to place where and what size you need. You need a press, a dial indicator, torque wrench and a impact wrench.

Another question I have for someone with them, what are some of the sweet spots, in which gears?
I know most of the races around here i get are usually from about a 35-40 roll, just curious if thats a good spot w/ 4.10s?
No this car is not a daily driver, it is mostly for the weekends, and other nice days to cruise on. I rarely drive it to work.

As far as power goes, youll love them, night and day difference. You could lose up to half second w/ the swap. They work partly by staying in the power band but most of the difference come from the shorter gear (not Taller) making it easier on the motor to move the car. Does that make sense? Dont know about 60 but at 70 i am just under 2k rpm. If you plan on installing them yourself id go w/ richmonds because they come w/ good instructions and the pinion depth is marked right on the pinion (this helps out a lot) also you need a tool to measure down to thousands of an inch to set backlash. Just take your time and follow instructions. 35-40 is bottom of second 1st ends ~ 38

to be honest the first time yes they were very noisy (3.73's) then those went out at the track, but the 2nd time no noise at all (3.42) in my opinion they just werent shimmed right the first time. Also had them in a my old truck w/ no noise. I now have motives they are pretty quite if that helps.

In my opinion, with 4.10 1-4 gears feel monsterous if you can happen to keep traction with first. Let's just say it's extremely easy to spin the crap out of 1rst. But I'd have to say 3rd & 4th are absolutely great. 5th does pull more than it does with 3.42s but only goes to 157 or so which is fast enough. I think 6th is better because I can cruise alot more places instead of it just being a highway gear.
