i replaced my gears in my v6 firebird. i heard if you have watery rear end.. thats a really really bad problem . and you dont want any shavings whatsoever in your rear end .. you should check your pinion depth and backlash with a centering depth tool and check to see the wear on your gears to see if they are normal there is a guide somewhere for it i bet ... do you have stock gears?

are the shavings from the pinion bearing? or the bearings on the sides?.. either way if everything else looks fine i would just get a new race n bearing set.

I started changing my gears a few days ago and noticed a lot of shavings in my rearend too. The gears looked great but when I went to change the bearings I noticed a lot of pitting off the carrier bearings, same problem as you. I'm lucky I got them changed!
