Default locker problems?

so does anybody know anything about lockers? i just put a nine inch in, you can turn the driveshaft a little more than an 1/8 of a turn b4 the rear looks like it engages. checked the backlash on the gears b4 they went in they were at .009 and make zero noise. i have noticed a vibration but i did install an adj trans crossmember and may be having torq arm placement issues. I decreased the pinon angle yesterday and i feel that there is less vibration. Not sure how these lockers work, could it be defective? btw its a detroit

You have backlash from the gears, then also slack in the locker from the engaging teeth. The instructions that come with the locker mention it.

Just Installed my new 9" with a Detroit Locker last week. Its normal. When you go to drive it, it takes about 50 miles then it will quiet down. Thought my rearend was falling out the first time I drove it. LOL!!! I now have about 120 miles and I love it in there. Wait till you make a right turn under power, If there is anyone around they will swear your rearend is falling apart.

I bet that is slow turns with the tranny still in gear and the clutch on the floor. Try taking the tranny out of gear before you start the turn; or leave it in gear with the clutch engaged and just put light pressure in the gas pedal to keep torque on the Locker .

I drove my car around a little last night after the 9"/locker install. Even though I read about how lockers are it was a shock at first. I noticed that it acts different depending on how much gas is applied. Seems like the normal way of powering around a slow turn in a low gear coupled with the cam surge created a worst case scenario for the locker. I'm shure it will get better with a slight change in driving habits.
