I've had 2...never noticed the noise unless pushing the car around the shop. While driving I didn't hear them over the exhaust. Then again, neither were torque arm cars. Did tend to make things a bit more exciting in high speed corners. Predictable & manageable but you could certainly tell when that thing locked.

I have a Detroit Locker and Love it. After the first 50 miles it quieted down and Yes it clunks, Makes a racheting sound, and you need to learn a little different driving style but, I sleep well knowing I have the strongest unit besides a spool you can own.
Mine is not a daily driver however, and I only put about 3500 miles a year on the car. If it was my daily driver, I would not hesitate at all to choose a locker again. After a while you don't even notice it at all.

I HATED my locker so much i bought another car to drive, i couldnt stand the clicking, the jumping, the pushing etc, i just swapped out the center section i dont think i got 4k on mine, and i hated not driving my car. Now at the track it will take anything ya throw at it but for a driver its not the way to go

If you are hard on equipment, go with a detroit locker and 35 splines. If you behave most of the time and dont treat your car like a $2 hooker, go with 31 splined true trac or trac lock. Personally, I tend to break anything that can be so I went with 35spine locker. I think the only noise that bothers me is when I back up fast and then take off in 1st, it makes a loud clunk because all of the slack in the diff. When you're going around a corner at roughly 15mph, and you start to give it some gas, the rear feels like its freewheeling for a second or like the driveshaft isnt connected. The car will rev up for a moment...weird. Some people describe it like the rear isnt bolted in but to me its like the DS isnt attached. At any rate, if you dont think you could handle driving a stock car in town stay away from it. Me, I daily drive mine and hope to have the trans face plated in a couple of months. My wife is certain I'm insane/sick......Hmmmm

I will most likey do, I have 5 10 bolts to my name and 2 mosers, all broke in 3 in this car and 5 in two other....Mcleod twin disk in this car, Noise dosen't bother me. I have an 89 1 ton Sierra no overdrive I drive all winter, big block w/ 4.10's
The most I usually put on the car in the summer is about 24 miles round trip a day. Somtimes I go for a cruise. I am tired of breaking rearends and worrying about the stupid 10 bolt I am driving on now.

Oh here is the actual deal
Currie 9 inch 4.11 gears detroit locker.
My old 10 bolt and driveshast plus 1500 bucks for the Currie rearend, Currie comes with weld in lower control arm relocation brackets and driveshaft for that rearend.
Now what do you think. I forgot to mention that stuff before. The guy lives about 2 miles away.

Sounds like a decent deal. Is it a 35 spline locker? Have you asked the current owner how it acts? Seems like some of them are worse than others. Myself, I like the security of knowing I can side step the clutch at 6k on sticky tires without worry...

i do about 10k a year on mine, you learn to drive around the few annoying spots. small price to pay for the beating it will take
it really depends on what you consider acceptable though . some hate them some are fine with them .
the day i stop racing for good is the day ill put a posi back in.
