Default Paddles???

I'm getting ready to install a set of 4.10:1 ring and pinion in a 4 channel ZT rear end in an 02 SS tomorrow morning. So it has 3.42s currently, and I thought I had everything, but I just read about paddle kits! What exactly are they and can I do the grinding method without worrying about it?

I have a master rebuild kit, sold crush sleeve, a 4.10 ring and pinion I bought in the for sale section here a few years ago in good shape. I also bought the heavy duty aluminum cover from Summit racing with load bolts for the bearing caps.

What do you mean by paddle kits? Haven't heard of that one yet. What does it do?

It is not a shim.

If you need a paddle kit and don't want to buy it, some people have just ground down a bit off the paddle or the ring gear to slip it in.

Yep, I ground mine til it slid right in. Do NOT bang it in with a hammer, you will NEVER be able to get it out then, unless you use a torch!

paddle kits are basically 2 thinner versions of the stock paddle.it's mostly used for 4.56 gears some grinding of the stock paddle is ok for 4.10's though.SLP sells them
