Default ford 9" setup

mocking up a new gear and wanna know how loose i can go.
i know specs say .008-.010 for longevity.
how far loose can you set it up for street/strip action?
ive always been told the looser you set it up the faster it is.

I dont think I'd get too worried about being the guinea pig for a speed secret that will likely cause you to have gear problems and excessive noise. Stick with the mfg recomended lash. As I recall, watching the richmond video made me realize how important setting the lash properly is. The gears are made to be run a certain way.

what is your opinion on this?
i had a factory 3.70 ford gear set up at .018 and it never wined or made any noises at all.
i bought a 4.33 motive and set it up at ..012 (specs .008-.012) and it whines so bad you cant even hear yourself talk in the car.
this jegs brand 4.33 has a spec sheet of .008-.010.

OEM Ford Ring & Pinions are typically ran with wider backlash. This is the standard from Ford. It has to do with the way they cut their gears. Most aftermarket gears you the traditional .006 to .010 due to the 5 step gear process that has been used for an eternity. Setup specs vary between OEM and Aftermarket Gears.

Set it a specification or do the gears again.
