Default Rear axle out of a Silverado 2500

This may be a stupid idea. But i thought a really good budget axle might be a heavy duty axle out of a 2500 silverado. I believe they use a 12 bolt. I know the driveshaft and axle housing would have to be cut for measurements and thats a pretty easy obstacle to overcome. But, I dont know if you could get the right measurement axles for the housing. Has anybody heard of this being done before?

You will be much better off and cheaper just going with an aftermarket rear end. The torque arm is unique in our cars and trying to fab something up always ends up being more money, time, and not always the best thing to do.
