the posi carrier is more than likely the failed part. you can spend upwards of 1000.00 to fix it and upgrade. or... you can spend money wisely on a 12 bolt, S60, or a 9 inch. prices for a good rearend start around 2100.00. if you upgrade the 10 bolt and it breaks again, you already spent the money on the upgrade, now have to spend it again on a good rearend. you end up spending almost 2x as much as a good one to begin with. and the more power mods you make, the worse it will be for the 10 bolt, no matter what you do.

i have the best deal on all of them... my fabricated housing 9 inch, Strange S60, 12 bolt, and Moser rears. pm me for a suggestion on parts and a quote

I agree. #1 rule with a 10 bolt. Upgrade don't rebuild.

if you ever plan on racing the car, then the 9 inch is the way to go. do it right the first time.
my 9 inch fabricated rearends will accept 3 or 4 channel abs
the S60 is also a great choice. its extremely strong, but is also heavy.

With a six speed, you're better off with a 9". If you choose 31 spline axles and true trac posi, you wont notice any difference in how the car drives. It'll just be way stronger and dependable. It will work with stock LCA's and panhard bar but I dont know about the torque arm.

If you don't have the money and don't plan to upgrade the car much at all if any you can find used 10 bolts for 300-400 bucks. some of them are even already upgraded. Just make sure it's not junk already before you buy it. But you could still have the same problem... a few months or couple years from the install it may shell out like yours did. so I'd suggest upgrading also, but the options are out there.

If I am comparing apples for apples a 9" canbe built much stronger, has more available parts, wider options for gearing. But it all depends on what your plans are for the car. Let me know if we can help.

So what are you more mad about the car or the stained driveway? I'd be more mad about the driveway. Anyway if you plan on modding and keeping the car I would upgrade to a 9 inch with an M6. Some A4's get away with it but I wouldn't play games with the M6.

Yes a Truetrac is a positraction differential. Transfers power between wheels. Nice and smooth without chatter. A 9" will take about as much HP as you build it for. If you have plans to upgrade power build the diff right the first time. It will save you money in the long run. Check out our website for details.
