Question Stock Aluminum Driveshaft

Anyone know the grade of aluminum used in the stock f-body driveshafts?

Thanks.

No one can answer this? I didn't think it'd be that difficult a question.

the material grade is not stamped into the tube. unless someone can find out who actually manufactures them and try to get an answer that way. good luck there.
if i were to guess, i'd say it's probably 5052, and from the ones i have seen broken, it's not very thick.

Is that a common structural alloy?

I'm pretty sure AAM manufactured it, but that part of the business may have been sold off or closed down.

there ya go... lol

the stock driveshaft is marginal at best. i have seen h/c cars break them on the street with stock tires.

a good shaft like a PST or a Strange chromemoly unit is cheap insurance considering the damage a broken stock one will create. let alone the cost to fix that damage when it does.

That's interesting. I didn't realize they were so fragile. I haven't seen/heard of many breaking out by me. Something to keep in mind.
