Default how can i figure out what gears i have?

I thought i had the stock gearing for a Z28 with a 6 spd. i bought my car used last fall, and the car is pretty much stock. only lid and catback when i bought it, but after talking to people at the track, they said i must have differnt gearing cuz at the end of the quarter i have to shift into 5th. if i leave it in 4th ill bounce off the rev limiter before i cross the line. they had f-bodies as well and they were shifting into 4ht at th end of the track...any help to figure this out would be awesome. thanks

well this is my first ls1 car, so i honeslty dont have anything to compare it to except with what others have said they were running. I havent made any gear swaps. basically im trying to figure out if the gears in my car are the stock ones, or if they were swapped out at some point. and if they were swapped, what are they?

I never ran out gear with my stock gear (3.42) at the track intill I put my 4.10 in. now I have to shift to 5th right before the traps..The number of teeth on the ring gear divided by the number of teeth on the pinion (eg: 41/11 = 3.73) equals the gear ratio..

so you have to shift into 5th right before you cross the line? that is what i have to do. so maybe someone swapped in 4.10s?

going off the calculator on f-body.org, it looks like i have 3.73 in my rear. it says that in 6th at 2k, i woul dbe at 81 mph, and that matches up perfect with what my speedo says... thanks for the help.

well your speedo would be off but im sure the person that owned the car before you had it re-calibrated for the new gears. Especially since the gear chart is showing you what you are seein in the car anyways. Always nice to find something like that out haha
