Default ford 9 inch backlash

I put my new moser 9 inch in about a month ago, and ever since i did that ive been hearing a clunking when i put it into gear with the clutch all the way in. Then the other day i was under the car and i noticed the driveshaft turns at least a full 1/8 turn before it catches any gear. NO way thats normal thats a lot of backlash. everything was brand new and the gears were professionally set up. is there any other reason that it would allow the driveshaft to turn that much other than excessive backlash.

1/8" of a turn is a bunch but there may also be some axle end slop where it inserts into the diff. This will contribute to the slop as well as some clunking. If your backlash were to be that far off it would be screaming and not clunking.

I see you have 35 spline axles. If you have a detroit locker, 1/8 or a little more is perfectly normal for the yoke to turn.
