Default HELP!! car is whining

About 2 weeks ago my car started whining on the freeway. If i hit the gas slightly more it whines more. I changed the rear diff. fluid today and it didn't go away.
Could this whine be the drive shaft or tranny? sounds like its coming from the back. what should i check to find the problem? any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance. Dan

Oh the whine is not super super loud, but started out of no where.
I took it to the track the other day and nothing broke, but sounded like it got louder so now i want to solve this problem before something brakes on me.

this fits my how my car sounds: A howl or whine during acceleration over a small or large speed range is usually caused by worn ring

how much does it cost to change a worn ring?

is it ok to drive my car like this? based on what i have read its a worn out ring and pinion and/or possibly a bearing. does this mean its going to fail soon or just means it needs to be changed?
thanks for the help

they all whine slightly at some point, you can remove the caps, pry out the carrier and inspect the carrier bearings and their races for score marks or pits. Just dont lose track of the shims and reinstall the carrier with the sims in EXACT SAME locations they came out. Its most likely a carrier bearing, if it is just bring the whole carrier to a parts store and have um pull off the old bearings and press on new ones.
