Default 4.30's too big?

thinking of going to 4.30's but dont want to be shifting into fifth in the quarter will i be doing that or no? i have to get a rear end and i already have a huge cam so i was thinking the gears would make it a little more streetable. TIA

It depends on how high you rev your engine to, your rear tire size, and how much horsepower you are making. Back in '04 my Z28 was at 540 rwhp, had 28" M/T ET's, and 4.10 gears in the Moser 12 bolt. I was on the 6200 rev limiter at the 1000 ft mark in 4th gear. I ran it on out bouncing off the rev limiter. We didn't set it any higher prior to going to the track because the engine had 126,000 miles on it.

My car is the one on the left. Bob

sorry looking to rev to 6500, thinking of a 26" tire, and making about 540 to the wheels

That's going to be too much gear, you'll be on the limiter at 115mph. Stepping up to a 28" tire would get you 126mph which would be cutting it close.....

4.30's here and absolutely love them. I will run a 26.5" tall tire for the track and will be fine. Takeing my motor to 6500 rpm.

I'm running 4.56's, 28" tires and I'm usually around the 6800rpm range or so in 4th.
