Thinking About Going to 4.10s
I drive my car mainly on the street. I really want to put 4.10s in it. I had 4.10s in my H/C C5 and I loved them. However, I am worried about the stock 10 bolt. Do you guys think that the rear end will break from driving hard on the street with street radials? Or Drag Radials? I am not going to launch it. I just want to be able to stand on it in 1st or 2nd at 2k rpm. My car has basically stock power.

Installing 4.10s was as big of a "seat of the pants" mod as when I installed my cam. Before installing the 4.10s I was contemplating pulling out my cam and putting the stocker back in due to all the bucking and shitty bottom end power. But now it has the daily drivability of stock except 400hp. Its NICE. If I could do it all over again 4.10s would be the very first mod I would do.

I'd like to hear a little more from other people also. I'm contemplating 4.11 gears, but am concerned about the small pinion. I'm not going to race that much, but I would like to know that it's going to hold up to some passes at the strip without failure.
Which then has me thinking that 3.73's would be better because they are bigger than 4.11, so they should be less prone to breakage, but then it's not that big of a jump from 3.42's so I don't know if it would even be worth it.

As long as the wheel hop is minimized and you arent clutch dumping your car at every opportunity, the 4.10's should last. Make sure to change the rear diff. fluid out after the first 100 miles!

I guess I'm one of the others, 4.10's love em broke three gear sets, two differentials and one axle with the 10 bolt. do your self a favor and just get a 9" and don't think about it again.

Dont worry about them breaking. If you race it enough SOMETHING is going to break in that POS 10 bolt rearend. You might as well enjoy it. If you go with a 3.42 or 3.73 gear ratio you are going to have to launch harder to keep the car from bogging. If you have sticky tires that is going to break an axle or if you have a zexel torsen rearend that will surely be first to go. With the 4.10s the car gets out of the hole with a lot less effort! I left at idle everytime at the track and cut a 2.0 sixty foot consistently.

ive got 4.10's in my 10 bolt. Awesome! They whine like a mother because they were set up tight, and with a solid instead of a crush sleeve. Anyhow, havnt broken yet and made 5 track passes on them with bolt ons. Now that I have the heads/cam they will see another few 1/4 attempts, and i flog on my car every chance I get on the street, with BFG DR's. Ill let you know WHEN they let go.
