You can either buy a 3 series carrier, or do what I did, and buy 3 series gears that are made to fit 2 sereis carries. I used Richmond gears, but motive makes them too. It cost me a total of $634.29 installed. I can't help you with e.t. improvement, as i didn't track it right after that mod. Hope that helped a little.

Don't go with Richmonds unless you want gear whine. I recommend going with GM gears, Motive, or Precision. Buy a 3-series carrier, and get the 3-series 3.73's.

Why would you want to go with a 3 series carrier? Isnt a two series carrier stronger because of the more area of teeth contact?
Heres a question.... what is this car? Daily driver?? If it is then i wouldnt go 3.73's. I have 3.73's. I had 2.73's before. I would get 320-340 on a tank and i have a 98 (smallest tank) HW.
Now with 3.73's about 260-270 HW. City driving.... about 200 miles some times less. 2500rpm's = 70, 3000=83.
Now with my 3500 stall.... I love it. No track times sorry.
If it is a daily driver and you dont care about mileage then go for it.

gear whine w/ the richmond gears isn't that bad, hell I can hardly here it over ny exhaust. Guess it depends on your tollerence. I've been using Richmond for years on three different cars. I think most brands that offer 3 series gears for 2 series carries whine, I think it's because the gears are thicker.

I went to a 3.73 from a 2.73 and went from a 13.3 down to a 13.0 at the track after my swap. I kept my series 2 carrier and went with a thicker set of GM Motive gears. Gas milage will suffer a bit, and traction will be a tad harder to come by, but the S.O.T.P. difference it made was incredible. It really wakes the car up. I think a 3.73 gear is the best all-around gear for the A4. You just have
to feather the throttle a bit when launching. A couple of trys and you will get the hang of it.
It has gotten to the point where I'll drive my car
on the highway in 3rd gear a lot of the time. The
throttle response is amazing. Just tap it and the car will lunge forward. Don't forget that you will
need to reprogram the computer.
After the gears, get a converter. For the price, you can't beat it. Two of the best mods for the A4.

I don't know if i should go with 3.73s or not. I have 2.73 right know and i am about to install a 4400 stall. I know it will be lose but i don't know if i should switch to 3.23s or 3.42s just yet. My car is a street and strip car and i don't want to blow the rear yet using ET streets or slicks at the track. Also does anyone know if a rear with a 3 series rear end work if i swap them. Thanks
