Talking 3:73 gas mileage

I tried a search but couldn't find a clear answer. I'm looking at getting a rearend with 3:73's in my A4 car. So, all of you A4 guys w/ 3.73's, whats your mpg?

18-22, depends on how much highway I drive. If it's all city, 18 max. I just have a lid and 3.73s.

Are you asking about city mileage or freeway mileage?
I went from A4 3.23:1 to A4 4.56:1.
Around town MPG decreased as it's 'more fun' now.
Freeway MPG didn't drop as much as I was expecting.
With the 3.23s' on 8 trips to Florida from Ohio,I would get 24.5 flowing with traffic,25.5 observing the speed limits, and 26.5 driving purposely 5 MPH under the limits(as a test).
With the 4.56s' on a trip to Florida, yeah I went from Ohio to Florida to Ohio with 4.56s',I got 21.5 flowing with traffic(cruise control at 3100 RPM) and 21.9 observing the speed limits.MPG,based on mechanical change should have been in the 17-18 range.

I'd like to know highway and city, and what you were getting w/ your stock gears if you know it.

Thanks for the replies so far! Keep them coming

3K for 2400+ miles,remember both directions.
3100 RPM doesn't bother me,that's not up yet to the middle of the RPM range.
Low end is 1000 RPM,high end is 6000 RPM,that's a range of 5000 RPM,the middle would be 3500 RPM.

It has 123,000 miles on it and it keeps running better as time goes on,I've never been easy with it as it's a car and meant to be driven and driven hard.

Question not sure if good or bad

14-16 city - being around 2k rpm for the most part ...=200 easy city driving no getting on it

not sure on highway-i am at 2500 rpm doing 70 though

with mods:
slp lid/maf
slp lm
obx lt/res
3200 stall
built trans
ls6 intake
3.73 gears

What yall think...i tend to be a little heavy footed i like to hear her...is my gas mileage bad?

I forgot about both ways..Figured you didn't want to come home.. But,you have alot of mods too which might offset the R's.. How loud is it going down the freeway?

BTW I have 3:23's now and average about 18 in town. Just trying to get a gauge of how much my mpg will change since it's my DD.

Freeway suck ***** if you take it over 2500 rpms...around town is not too bad at all. Kinda depends if you have a lead foot or not

I have gone thru one tank so far with 3.73s and a 3600 stall. ~19mpg with 1/3 of it being hwy. Not too shabby. I will post again tomorrow after the 2nd fill.

3.73's before headers was getting about 17 mpg.

plugs, headers, etc got 17mpg my first tank .. I cant keep my foot out of it!! Been getting on it everywhere and still getting 17 so Im happy. Got 220 to a tank. I doubt I'll have enough self control to get more than that.

Yep, I went from 2.73's to 3.42's and my gas mileage went up slightly. It also made it feel like a new car. Take the plunge and enjoy the ride

I have a 98z w/ 3.73's and auto.
22mpg mix of city and highway if im nice to it.
20mpg mix of city and highway if i'm having fun

70mph = 2,400 rpms
75mph = a little over 2,500 rpms

Most likely the best modification for the money.
Mine had a 3.73 when i got it.
Got my stock gear too.

(An earlier 98z I had w/ 3.23's + auto got 27 mpg highway)
