Default Wheel stud question

Not sure if this should be in drag tech or here. I need to replace my rear studs. I have ARP 3.25 studs. Do the axles need to be pulled, or is there a way to do it with them in?

If they are pressed in it will be pretty hard to do without taking the axles out. If they are threaded in it will be easier. There's an access hole on the backing plate.

Yep, I put in 3.25" ARPs in my 9" with the axle IN. They were the press in's. Take out the TCS sensor, and that's where the studs go through the backing plate at. As for getting them in, I took a good Grade 8 nut, and lubbed up the press in section of the stud. Then, just put the bolt through, and put the nut on it. From there, get an impact gun, and bring the stud the rest of the way in.

Done.

Be careful if you choose not to pull the axle it can stretch the threads. For the time it takes you to play around with all the mickey mouse stuff it would be easier, safer, and cleaner to just pull the axle shaft out and press them in.

Wow,

That would be one weak-*** stud if it stretched from pulling it into the axle. I guess it definately could happen, but I never really felt it was being put to much more abuse than your average tire change shop. I think you make a valid point though
