Default Question!!!!!!!!!!!

I drive a 00 M6 Camaro. I just recently replaced the pinion seal about 3 weeks ago. About a week ago I started to notice this odd rear end Tink noise when start off in either first or reverse. I did some research here on the forum and all I am really trying to rule out is damage to my pinion bearings. I realize now that you can overtighten the pinion nut so this is why I am concerned. So if someone could please offer some insight as to whether this is just a "normal" f-body problem or whether I may have a problem with pinion bearings. BTW the rear end is very quiet other than the tink sound.

Probably not related. If you over-tighten and damage the bearings you'll have a constant noise problem.

So is this tink that I am hearing a normal thing? I know its a normal condition for the A4 cars but is it the same for the M6? And is there any new ways to go about fixing the problem?

No it is not a normal thing. If the noise was not there before I can only assume that the pinion bearing preload is bad. Most likely the nut is backing off and the pinion is loose. Is it leaking?

Well I was under there yesterday and I noticed that the pinion still has a minor leak. How do I go about fixing this problem? Is it going to get involved?

I'm also wondering HOW tight that pinion bolt needs to be. I've seen and heard 12 in/lbs. Is this accurate and if it is how tight is that really? Would you use an air gun for that or tighten that by hand?
