Cool How do you get the studs out of an old axle without damaging them?

I posted a question about buying 2.5 inch long ARP studs for my new axle but couldn't get an answer on what type of closed lug nut will fit on them, So

How can I get the studs out of my old axle without causing damage to them.. A brass hammer or something like that? I already fubared one up with a regular hammer by beating it out...

Thanks

That is what I was going to do , but my stock studs seem to be 2 inches long and the new ones I bought at Autozone are only 1.5 inches long.. I don't drag my car, but I also don't want to go that short....
