Default 3 ch LT1 into 4 ch LS1 Q's

I probably should have researched this BEFORE I bought the axle, but I bought an axle from a member here, and it is out of a '96 TA, so I'm sure it's 3 ch.

The previous owner is going to keep his backing plates and brakes to go on his new rear of course. I'm getting everything else.

My car has a 4 channel rear with LS1 brakes.

What do I need to do to make this work?

Is it as simple as I think, and I just need to bolt my LS1 backing plates on and throw the axles in?

Any help would be appreciated.

I did the same exact swap on my car.

Parts that you will need to swap over:

4 channel backing plates
4 channel axles

Extra labor to make the 4 channel work:

You will have to clearance the 3 channel rear's axle flange for wheel sensor clearance.
The stock 4 channel axle flange is designed to clear the wheel sensors, where they attach to backing plates.
It's no big technical job, it's just a little time with a dremel, but it has to be done since the axle flanges are indeed different.

Here's a link with pics showing exactly what I am talking about.

I had several pics showing the differences, but they are gone...

Many thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure that my dremel is charged before I get the axle here.

I'm also thinking of welding up the tubes before I throw it in. It'd be the best time to do it.

I guess I can PM the guy and tell him that I don't need the 3 ch axles? That way I can save a little bit on shipping.

Correct. The 3 channel axles are worthless to you if you intend to use yours as a 4 channel. They aren't capable of using the exciter rings that you need with the 4 channel setup.

Well, I'm not even worried about keeping TCS or ABS, TCS is gone already, and ABS will be gone shortly.

I just wanted to make sure that I'd be able to use the axle without too much pain in the butt.
