Default How much can a stock DS take??

Just got my 9" in my car and kinda scared to launch it in fear of breaking my driveshaft. Anyone know what they will take and what a good alternative driveshaft would be(chrome moly, steel, carbonfiber). Thanks

I'm not sure about a good alternative, but I just screwd my drive shaft yesterday launching, and my car is just bolt ons with the stock rear... Some people have good luck with the stocker, but I didn't.

The factory driveshaft can turn into a pretzel fairly easily. The PST driveshaft that we sell will handle 1000 hp and is lifetime guaranteed. Here is a link to it.

Here are two videos of my car showing the abuse this driveshaft can handle. Bob

I have had good luck with stock aluminum, and stell driveshafts. My aluminum has been 7.60's with 1.6x's 60 ft's on 6k clutch dumps and slicks. And my steel one has held up to 7.0's with 1.6x's on MandH drag radials. Not advising this AT ALL but just saying it can be done....

The stock AL shaft is not that strong. One hard launch and mine was toast. we like Strange. They are in the 300.00 neighborhood.

Went this weekend and went 7.84 1/8th and 12.25 1/4, unknown 60ft still. The track officials had some problems with the printing machine but have a friend that works there to get a time slip printed.

This may be a silly question...but how do I know which stock driveshaft I have? Steel or aluminum?

If it is rusty...then it is probably steel.

The stock AL is reinforced w/ Cardboard, yea I trust it....

A M6 car with a slick will granade it easy, if its a auto it should survive longer.

You spent all that money on a 9". Get a 3" chromolly Strange. comes with 1350 yokes and u-joints. $295 shipped from Eric at Midwest. It will take any abuse you can throw at it. Better safe than sorry.
