Angry 9" screaming at me! / FIXED

I have a brand new 9" with aluminum center section that is screaming at me. I don't know what is wrong with it. I have taken it to my local speed shop, they are very familar with 9" rear ends but even when they put a new ring and pinion it still is making a HUGE amount of noise. They gave it back to me because some other work needed to be done with it, so I took it because the gears had quiten a little bit. But after about 5 miles on them it started screaming at me again. The gear vendor says the interior needs to be back in the car to determine if itz too noisy. I have sound deadener in it but no carpet, this thing is REAL LOUD, I don't think carpet is going to do anything.
My question is do you set up an aluminum center any differnet than a nodular or cast center section? Any help or suggestions are welcomed.

Unhappy ok

Has anybody ever had the center be off, itself? Two different gear sets, same obnoxious noise, has to be something different to me. HELP?

Maybe so, but this thing has about 30 miles on it with, less than 450 flywheel HP.

What gear ratio are you running?

What do you mean by screaming?

Is it a whining on deaccelaration noise (common) or just gear grinding all the time noise?

Also did they do a gear mesh sweep to check contact pattern when the gears were set up?

No, the aluminum center is just fine for daily use. Many people have never had a problem with them at all. Bob

The sound is both going up and down(accel and decel). It resonates sometimes too, as far as checking the sweep, I don't know I will ask them that on Monday. After my intial 5 mile run on the gears, me and my buddy put the car up on the lift just to make sure there was fluid in the damn thing, it was, and the center section was hot enough to fry an egg. This is the second set of gears in it, both of them made an incredible amount of noise. They are 4.10 gears and I'm not sure of the manufacturer but I will ask about that on monday to and post that information.

My question is do you set up an aluminum center any different than a nodular or cast center section? Any help or suggestions are welcomed.

you know what if the case was that hot then I believe the gears was definately either set wrong or maybe that case is not true and causing the gears to have too much interference or binding.

what's the history on that aluminum case?

did you buy it new or used?

Same set-up. Breaking in a new set of gears will make the case hot, that is normal. Bob

from what I remember there was no difference.

difference was if you were running slicks the the feathering would be closer to the inside as opposed to street will be pattern in the middle.

as for it running hot it shouldn't be hot enough to fry an egg.
something is definately not right about that.

you still never answered if the aluminum case was bought used.

If it was I have feeling that aluminum case might be bad.

Obviously you should not have such a loud rear, most of the Moser rears are pretty quiet, not screaming as yours is. Contact the vendor you bought it through and have them take care of getting the center section sent in to Moser to have it inspected. Bob

as gear is US I think they are 2 cut gears and should be setup with a differant pattern from a reg 5 cut gear , just a question you may like to ask your setup person
good luck, Johnny

I would send it back and have it inspected. Have you thought to pull the plug and drain the fluid out and see if there is any metal in the fluid? What fluid are you running? Are you breaking it in properly?

Just a couple ideas. Did you set up the pinion angle correctly? Are you using conventional gear lube or synthetic? I found setting pinion angle quieted my 9" and I also run just regular 90 non syn gear lube with posi additive
